Anat Fort is the winner of the Prime Minister Jazz Composers Award!

Every year, 5 classical composers and one jazz composer are chosen by a special committee in Israel to win the prestigious Prime Minister Composers prize. This year, the winner of the jazz composers award is Anat Fort. The judges write:

Anat Fort is a composer and jazz pianist, who possess a personal, unique, clear and prominent voice in the Israeli and international jazz scene.

Her work is characterized by great imagination and an organic and convincing blend of influences from the field of free jazz, traditional jazz, classical music and popular Israeli music. In her music, Anat expresses her rich emotional world and high sensitivity, and she often challenges her listeners by the structural freedom that is so typical of her in both her written and improvised work – the two combined ways in which jazz artists express themselves.

It is refreshing to find a jazz musician like Anat Fort and we hope that her winning the Prime Minister’s Prize for composition in the jazz field will serve to inspire others like her.
